The 950/990 has better suspension components front and rear. Maybe 990 was not dialed but to get them to a high level the 990 did not need fork cartridges as the 1090R does. The 950/990 also has a larger 50mm pds shock. The 1090R can be really good just takes more effort and money. #10.
The suspension on the 1090R is fully adjustable front and rear using preload, compression and rebound settings on the fork and shock. I do mostly offroad riding and find that I need the bike set on Sport settings.
